About

Welcome to my watercolour world of forest creatures and birds that are painted in my studio overlooking the beautiful Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire.

Since moving to the area in August 2016 I have fulfilled a life long ambition, to paint, pure and simple. Being self taught, every time I pick up a paint brush is a lesson, in handling the colour, allowing the paint to blend and mix and knowing when to stop!

I’m impatient for the little faces of my subjects to appear and feel a bond with them as we travel through their creation. Sometimes they battle with me, sometimes they’ll happily glide onto the board, either way I’ll refer to them as one of my “babies” when they are fully there, as crazy as that may sound!

I’m endlessly fascinated by the birds I see from the window while I’m eating breakfast and this is how my day starts with ideas popping into my head at various times of the day, with late night ideas being sketched out before sleep.

In April of 2023 a new venture, Urchins Gallery and Artisan Gift Shop in Ross-on-Wye was established by myself and Tara Slater, a mixed media artist, as a way of showcasing our work in an environment that we could create and curate ourselves with local artisan makers work from the amazing array of talent from Monmouthshire to Bristol with ceramics, fused glass and jewellery.
The gallery is stewarded by Tara and myself and if you pop in you will be bound to see my current works in progress. I'm always happy to natter about the stories behind my paintings so please pop in and have a chat if you're in the area!
